Susu, Carro and KP, are a trio of close knit friends that are embarking on their study abroad adventure to Korea! Come along with them as they explore the culture, language and all the awesome things and experiences Korea has to offer.

After learning about Korea, Susu, Carro, and KP win a giveaway trip where the prize is studying in Korea for three months.

What’s crazy about this Webtoons is how it’s connected to an ACTUAL Korean Education and Culturebusiness called Soo and Carrots. Their goal is to let others around the world experience the culture of Korea, and their Webtoons is one of their outlets to do so. Honestly, it’s fantastic advertising.

From learning about working in Korea, to understanding how important a person’s color pallete is, SuSu in Korea is a fun way to experience the beauties of Korean Culture.

This led to the creators making an apology statement (which you can read here).

While some might have been offended by the contents of the latest episode, I believe that this might’ve been a missed opportunity to have an uncomfortable cultural conversation. So. These are MY opinions on the subject, and I’d love to hear YOURS in the comments.

The discourse around GET SCHOOLED is very interesting.

There are two things that many are not considering:

Pay attention I promise you won’t like these answers but you need to consider them…

#1 - Webtoons is in a hard place. They’re a Korean company that publishes Korean comics while also serving a massive western base. Stories like GET SCHOOLED are from a Korean POV. This puts western readers and the US side of the company in a predicament.

Because they have to now play BOTH sides of the isle in terms of what their creators can and can’t do. It’s a hard position and from a company standpoint, there back was against the wall.

However, this brings me to #2

#2 - creators need to have the ability to tell stories that rock the boat. They’re able to engage in cultural conversations that are extremely uncomfortable, but when done right, can shed light on issues.

Here’s the thing…

While many might find this episode of “Get Schooled” racist and worthy of cancelation, there are many who might find this episode as a way to see that others see the experiences and problems that they face.

In order to tell stories that are going to move and grow us, we need to be able to tackle very difficult conversations culturally. From one POV, it might seem racist, and from another it might be what victims experience.

The creator was obviously trying to shed light on a specific POV of people that experience this stuff day to day. They should be allowed to tell their side and allow their story to go the distance.

Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe has a won a Ringo Award for 2023 for Best Webcomic Series! This will be the SECOND year in a row that Lore Olympus has taken home an award at the Ringo's. 

The Ringo Awards are prizes given for achievement in comic books. They are named in honor of artist Mike Wieringo and they were founded in 2017.

Lore Olympus is a modern retelling of the Greek myth of Persephone and Hades. It follows Persephone, the young goddess of spring, as she is taken to the Underworld by Hades, the god of the dead. Despite their rocky start, the two eventually fall in love and must overcome challenges to be together. Lore Olympus is a story about love, loss, and redemption. It has been praised for its beautiful art, engaging story, and complex characters.

Here are some of the things that make Lore Olympus a great webtoon:

• The art is stunning. Rachel Smythe's art style is beautiful and expressive, and she does a great job of capturing the emotions of the characters.

• The story is engaging. Lore Olympus is a slow-burn romance, but it is also full of suspense and intrigue. You will never know what is going to happen next.

• The characters are complex. The characters in Lore Olympus are not just stereotypes. They are all flawed and relatable, and you will find yourself rooting for them even when they make mistakes.

If you are a fan of Greek mythology, romance, or just good storytelling, then you should definitely check out Lore Olympus. It is a webtoon that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.
